***** Their early work was a little too post-grunge for my tastes, but when Diorama came out in 2002, I think they really came in on their own: commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound and a new level of artistic exploration that really gives the songs a big boost. They've been compared to Muse, but I think Daniel Johns has a far more fluid, colourful sense of melody.
In '07, Silverchair released this: Young Modern, their most accomplished album. I think their undisputed masterpiece is 'Straight Lines': a song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should! Because it's not just about the act of self-preservation through negative forces in life, it's also a personal statement about Daniel and his band as well!
TRY GETTING A RESERVATION AT DORSIA NOW, YOU FUCKING STUPID BASTARD! YOU, FUCKING BASTARD!
(2017 Note: Diorama is actually better than Young Modern, and I do appreciate their earlier grunge elements a bit more now, but I'm keeping it like this because I'm too proud of the reference lol) Zuletzt editiert: 24.08.2017 13:39
***** This is a great song no doubt, although personally not of top-shelf quality. A key thing for me here is the issue of the progression of the band in this song. The disappointment is the loss of the rawness from earlier material, but being a positive song this was probably intentional. I remember being very happy at its debut at #1 and holding it for a while, but I was very bored when it hung around the Top 50 for too long.
**** It's really no surprise that they copped a lot and were called sell outs by their fans. A shame really because I much prefer this style to their earlier stuff. This is highly enjoyable and the lyrics are great, deserved #1 imo". Destroys their other two ARIA #1s as far as I'm concerned. Zuletzt editiert: 06.04.2014 11:32
****** Initially didn't like this. It being played to oblivion when first released didn't help the cause. Nowadays it is deservingly Silverchair's crowning moment and I love it. You can't deny that the chorus is absolutely huge. Zuletzt editiert: 23.06.2017 01:49
