Staubig, aber nicht verstaubt. Der Jimmie Cox-Blues Standard aus dem Jahr 1923 hat heute noch immer Kult-Status, nicht zuletzt durch Eric Clapton, der den Song in mehreren Versionen coverte. Nachdem Bessie Smith den Song während der internationalen Wirtschaftskrise aufnommen hatte, schoß er auf Platz 15 der amerikanischen Charts und sorgte für ein Comeback der bereits abgeschriebenen Blues-Sängerin.
An diesem Song kann man sehr schön studieren, wer das Timbre von Bessie Smith anstrebte: Niemand anderes als die früh verstorbene Pop-Ikone Janis Joplin, die diesen Song übrigens zusammen mit dem Jefferson Airplane-Gitarristen Jorma Kaukonen ebenfalls coverte.

gefällt mir sehr gut. aus dieser Zeit gibt es neben Brecht/Weill wenig, dem ich eine 5 geben würde. dieses Lied ist so Eines!
